Balancing Triangles Just Got Cooler

Balancing triangles are cool, but they usually end up as glorified paperweights. They do one impressive trick, and once you've seen it, they sit on a shelf. We got tired of that.

What if your balancing triangle wasn't just about the physics? What if it was a useful desk companion, something you'd actually leave switched on?

Introducing: Pivot, The Balancing Triangle That Thinks!.

It's not just about balancing anymore

  • Productivity Powerhouse: It acts as a focus timer, tracks your work sessions, and displays calendar notifications. It earns its spot on your desk by being useful. The balancing is a bonus.

  • Memory Keeper: Its “mind” is stored in a simple notes vault, similar to Obsidian. It remembers what matters to you because it's written down. And there's no black box: its memory is a folder of text files you own, so you can open it, read what it knows, and correct it.

  • Personality Plus: A single eye conveys emotions: curiosity, skepticism, surprise. Subtle expressions make it feel alive. It blinks naturally, gets sleepy when nothing's happening, and reacts a split second before it speaks, the way a real face does.

  • Stands Itself Up: Set it down on its side and it flips itself up onto a corner. No holding it in place and waiting for it to catch.

  • Movement: Walks across your desk by intentionally tipping and catching itself on the next corner. Its eye stays level the whole time, even as the body rolls underneath.

  • Body Language: When its eye darts to one side, its whole body flinches the same way, so it reads as one creature instead of a screen stuck on a gadget.

  • Effortless Charging: Dock it and forget it. No cables or manual intervention.

We're building this, not just talking about it

The balancing, movement and expressions have already been built and tested in a physics simulation, with the sensors deliberately made worse so they'd behave like real, cheap parts. Hardware is next. Detailed build logs will be released as soon as it's standing on a real desk.

The future of balancing triangles is here, and it thinks!
